As supporters, we are never 100% privy to the mindsets of the coaches in charge of our favourite teams. In the latest Siya investigations, we have learned that coach Steve Komphela is considering converting Siyanda Xulu into a right back.
This news has largely been received with a backlash from the supporters of the Glamour Boys. Many have said that Chiefs are already equipped with players for the right back position, most notably marquee signing Ramahlwe Mphahlele. Others insist this is a gamble that could lead to further bad results, and could possibly be detrimental to Xulu's career.
"Converting a player from one position to another is a lottery, you might win or lose and it will take time for the player to adjust to the new position, and that gives opponents an edge as they will use the side to attack very often." – donna
"So Rama is no longer a right back? I see disaster if they continue to play him at center back." – Livadown
"It shows that Steve Komphela was not involved in buying players. There is Ramahlwe and Moleko who are right backs. This coach is clueless. Xulu is a natural central defender and he can play with Katsande in the middle of the park. Komphela doesn't know what he is doing at Kaizer Chiefs. Very soon he will leave the stadium with a state vehicle (Nyala)." – Legs Mosome
"If Komphela can stop playing players in the positions that they are not used to, then we can see better performance to his team. Now, what he is doing is just killing these boys' careers. Look, in the first place, he should have played Xulu and Lorenzo/Cardoso, then he would try Rama on the right as Rama was playing there at his previous club. Now, after this, I'm one of those who feel Komphela must leave the team." – Xego S.M. eCofimyaba
