Cheque Books Open Ahead Of Transfer Season

With the season soon ending, anticipation is building up tremendously ahead of the transfer window. There is no doubt that clubs spend millions to boost their squads and fight for the best players in the game. Some teams have already started signing cheques, and things are certainly getting more interesting by the day!

Just last week, news reached the Soccer Laduma crew that veteran midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane will be departing from Kaizer Chiefs at the end of the season. He was the glue that held the Glamour Boys together, and will be dearly missed by his teammates. SuperSport United, on the other hand, have gained an experienced player who will definitely take the team to new heights. There seems to be no bad blood between the two parties as the Amakhosi faithful have only shown gratitude and appreciation to the 33-year-old and the time he spent with the club.

Stuart Baxter has continued to rope in players to the Matsatsantsa camp, having also brought in another midfielder in Cole Alexandre. The 26-year-old's contract with Polokwane City expires at the end of June, and United managed to snatch the player away from the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, who were all vying for his signature. Can't wait to see what else Baxter has under his sleeve!

The Buccaneers have also been busy scouting and recruiting players in the PSL. They have strengthened their defence ahead of next season with the signing of Chippa United's Nigerian defender James Okwuosa, who will be expected to fill the gap left by veteran Siyabonga Sangweni. Pirates need the extra players as the team showed signs of fatigue this season when they had CAF duties and cup competitions, and it took a toll on their performance in the league. There has also been the addition of another skilful player in Platinum Stars' Mahlatse Makudubela, who is currently on loan at Golden Arrows, and is set to seal the deal at Mayfair come the end of June. There are also rumours making the rounds of unhappiness in the camp with target man Lehlohonolo Majoro being one of those players. Watch this space in the Pirates ship!

Many other PSL players will be donning new kits in the upcoming season as contracts expire and teams seek to bolster their squads. We will definitely be keeping our eyes open for any and all comings and goings!

Do you think Okwuosa will be able to fill Sangweni's shoes in the Pirates backline? Did Chiefs make the right decision in letting Letsholonyane go? Also, which other players do you think your favourite teams should sign?
