Captaincy Up For Grabs At Naturena

It takes a man of stature to captain a team, and not just any team when we bring up the name Kaizer Chiefs. Going into the new season, Steve Komphela will be searching for the perfect candidate to lead his reinvented team to success.

There takes much to consider when looking for the right player to wear the armband which comes with great challenges to drive any person insane! Over the years, Chiefs have had spectacular leaders in the likes of Neil Tovey, Lucas Radebe and Patrick Ntsoelengoe. Now, which player at Naturena has the ability to don the captain’s armband after it has been graced by such impeccable legends?

Goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has had a few stints leading the team from the back and being a vocal individual, he seemed to have managed to do an impressive job however, his injuries have had the best of him. Another player to have had the opportunity to try his luck at captaincy was Siphiwe Tshabalala. ‘Shabba’ possessed some qualities of being a captain for the future and will probably be shortlisted by coach Komphela. One of the outstanding players at Naturena, a goalscorer and a hard tackling defensive midfielder, Willard Katsande should be one to look out for. He was undoubtedly the man that carried the Glamour Boys through their turmoil and was head-and-shoulders above his teammates. Will Steve look to giving him the captain’s duties or will the recent signing of former Mamelodi Sundowns captain, Ramahlwe Mphahlele snatch it? Only time will tell…

Who do you think deserves the armband at Chiefs?
