This season we will enjoy watching not just two new teams in the PSL (the promoted teams) but at least three (including Cape Town City) and possibly four (Moroka Swallows). Of particular interest will be CTC, who will look to build a team from near scratch. How successful will this club be with the supporters and on the field?
Seeing as the club has never played before, they do not have any supporters, so Supporters Club caught up with Mother City resident Matt de Villiers to see how this club will be received by the people of Cape Town.
"I think it's only a good thing. Local football needs changes to bring in supporters and I guess this is another change. I have also heard that they are spending big money, I mean they are bringing in Austrian midfielders! Big spending means good football so I don't see any negatives."
Here's what Matt had to say when asked if he will support the team.
"Ja, I think I will. I usually only watch European soccer, but this team is right on my doorstep. So is Ajax Cape Town, but they have never done much to market their games. I live close to the stadium and I never see their games advertised or made into an event. Plus, I like the colours and kit of this new side. I want that jersey, it looks cool, and they are spending big money and have the former legend Eric Tinkler as the coach – so, I suppose, why not? I guess I will support them, we can call them my first local team when they start playing."
Do you think CTC will be successful? Where will their supporters come from?
