Possibly one of the biggest news stories of the transfer window broke on Tuesday: ex-Kaizer Chiefs captain Tefu Mashamaite will be joining Stuart Baxter at SuperSport United in the upcoming season. This has many in the Khosi Nation reeling from sadness, but there may be a silver lining…
This was pointed out by one of our online supporters, masindla, who stated that both parties may have won in this deal. Chiefs benefits because the supporters have been calling for younger players to be signed, and Masha's age does not put him in that category. On the other hand, Tefu wins by signing to play under a coach who helped him excel earlier in his career.
"Without taking anything from Masha, he is very disciplined, organised, a great leader but old. The same team that we think should have retained Masha was blamed for signing old players. Chiefs need young blood who are still hungry for success and players the club can rely on for five or six years. Remember, Mash only shone at Chiefs during Baxter's era. Before Baxter, Mash was a good bench and stands warmer. It is not a surprise that Masha has joined Baxter, who believed in him and gave him a chance to play. Right now, Maluleke is suffering from Baxter's departure because the current coach doesn't know how to use him. It is a good decision for Mash to join the same coach who trusted him."
Can you see the positives in this deal for all parties? Or did Chiefs or Masha miss out?
