Bloem Celtic Supporters Take Matters Into Their Own Hands

This season has been a tumultuous one for Bloemfontein Celtic and their ever-dedicated supporters. There were periods of shocking football and poor results, mixed with management issues, reports of the club being sold, and match-fixing allegations. The supporters are the strongest pillar of this side, and it appears they will not give up, even if management does.

Many of the club's supporters have had issues with management's decisions this year, the latest being the cancellation of the end-of-season player awards. The supporters decided that their soldiers still needed recognition and gave them awards of their own.

Goalkeeper Patrick Tignyemb received an award from the supporters in the form of a trophy titled "Best Goalkeeper 2015/16". He was emotional in his gratitude, and took to Facebook to say: "Thank you Celtic supporters for this trophy. At least you recognise your own. You recognise people who are working hard for you."

Management reportedly cancelled the annual awards because the team finished outside of the top eight. One of the supporters, in their closed Facebook group, had a sharp response for this excuse.

"Last season, we finished within the top 8 bracket and the player awards were NOT held as well.

"Even your relegated AmaZulu held the player awards.

"These awards have nothing to do with the log position of the club, but serve as a reward to players who have worked hard in the midst of these difficult conditions...

"Because bad as the team has performed, there were players who were a pillar of strength, who, if some of them did not stand out as they did, perhaps the team would have been relegated.

"This is the most lame of excuses we have heard from management.

"Their priorities are elsewhere than in seeing the team being properly managed.

"The players are not to blame for this dismal performance, it has everything to do with the much-publicised off-the-field issues which the chairman failed to address as a leader."

What can we learn from the Celtic supporters? Do you think it is right to not host player awards if a team finishes outside the top eight?
