It was a cup final nobody really saw coming. A 3-2 victory for SuperSport United over Orlando Pirates sees Stuart Baxter claim his first silverware on his return to South African shores. It was a footballing feast as goals flew in from every direction on Saturday. As with any unpredictable event in football, the fans did not take long to move in and bayonet the wounded.
Many of the supporters have stated how they thought they were watching an old match or that something had bewitched their TVs, especially when the mighty Buccaneers found themselves 3-1 down at halftime.
"I thought my TV was lying to me about the scoreline." – Mix n Match
Many supporters, regardless of their jersey colours, were just grateful for the football on show in Polokwane on Saturday. Finals are usually an awkward affair as both teams try to out-defend each other, but this was a sharp contrast to the beautifully dull European final that was played later on Saturday night.
"The game was a blockbuster of goals galore, I'm very happy for Stuart Baxter." – Mjoster
And while many Bucs fans are trying to figure out where to point the blame (Thabo Rakhale, Brighton Mhlongo, and Eric Tinkler were the first targets), many cannot help but heap praise on the tactically superior SuperSport United, who put on a mighty display of football.
"A loss is a loss, I accept defeat. We were moered in the first half and we could not recover in the second. Mhlongo was bliksemed by Brockie, electrocuted by Grobbler's strike and sjamboked by Boxall." – caddila_Tah_Inc.
What this result means for Tinkler's unknown, but one thing became very evident on Saturday – SuperSport United are here to play some football next season, and they mean business.
What did you make of the game on Saturday? Do you think this will affect Khoza's perception of Tinkler?
