It was a tough weekend for Orlando Pirates as they limped away from their Nedbank Cup experience. A gut-wrenching 3-2 loss at the hands of SuperSport United. This has become an all-too-familiar feeling for the proud Buccaneer nation, losing out in a final. The big question is: Can Tinkler withstand the onslaught of the most recent defeat?
"Of course, the supporters are not happy with the coach."
These were the words of devout Pirates supporter Joyce "Mama Joy" Chauke.
"Everyone is going after the players, but it was not them. Everyone is shouting at (Thabo) Rakhale, but he only made one mistake. Also, Happy Jele was put on too late in the game," she continued.
"Also, I am not a coach, but how can you only play with one striker in a game like that?"
Mama Joy would not be drawn on the issue of whether Tinkler should remain as Pirates' coach or not, but she did say that she will support whoever the coach is for however long he is there.
"As long as he is with us, I will support him," she added.
"Remember what they did to Pitso (Mosimane)? The Sundowns fans wanted to kill him, but now he is the hero. So we cannot do the same to Tinkler.
"It's up to Dr (Irvin) Khoza, if (Tinkler) sticks around. But if he goes, he goes."
Does Tinkler need more time? Or should he be sacked?
