Nigeria will have the entire African continent at the edge of their seats tonight, when they take on Lionel Messi's Argentina in their final Group D match at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Gernot Rohr and his charges know very well that they are in for a tough fight when they face La Albiceleste, who have had a rather frustrating start to their 2018 FIFA World Cup, having not yet won a single match so far.
However, the Super Eagles will go into this match confident following their impressive win over Iceland last week, and will look to take advantage of the 2014 World Cup finalists' poor run in the tournament.
Supporters Club member and passionate African football fan Oupa Baloyi has a special message for the West Africans who are representing an eagerly awaiting continent.
"Revenge is a dish best served cold. Messi's Argentina are known to be Nigeria's hoodoo team. Tonight, Nigeria need to prove to Argentina that they are the creative force of their lives and have what it takes to do what Croatia did to them," he said
"I have got a feeling this is going to be a rather mouth-watering FIFA World Cup encounter. Nigeria and Argentina want a win badly. A lot is at stake for the latter – a coach might be sacked should he fail to register a win and Lionel Messi might disentangle himself from the international football. Let stock up on popcorn!
"Without further ado, let me take this opportunity to give Gernot Rohr's charges credit for dishing out a stupendous performance against less populated nation Iceland. It will be indelicate of me not to extend my profound plaudits to Ahmed Musa for banging a brace, which saw the Super Eagles steamrolling over Iceland. What a thriller that game was!
"Well, the mandate for the two-time African champions is simpler than ABC. They must get a mere win and do Africans proud and, more importantly, book a spot in the knockout stages. They are in pole position to do so, they have a formidable squad with so much depth. Most of their players are plying their trade in one of the world's elite leagues.
"They have the capability to compromise Argentina. If Croatia caused Argentina a major upset, why can't Nigeria? Nothing sets them apart from the two. Argentina are not on song, if Nigeria bring their A-game they might inflict a defeat on Argentina. I put my head on the block by putting my nairas on Nigeria tonight, albeit the odds are stacked against them.
"I would like to urge all Africans to rally behind Nigeria as they take on Argentina. Our support means an awful lot to them. Let's inundate social networks with #NGA, #Nigeria #SuperEagles. Go, Super Eagles, go!"
