The clouds are slowly disappearing for Kaizer Chiefs as finally they got their first three points of the season. Thanks to a converted penalty from George Lebese, Steve Komphela can sleep a bit easier this week. But were the supporters convinced by the performance?
It seems, judging from the general sentiment today, that the Khosi Nation is not completely convinced by their team's display against Highlands Park, with many stating that luck was on their side.
"Hmmm. I'm very happy we managed to scrape for a win, that's the most important thing: winning. We have not won a game in a long time now, but what I saw from our play suggests that the problems we are facing are far from being over. Our midfield is shambolic and our frontmen are very poor, but I can draw positives from players like Ekstein, Twala and Maluleka. I think Lebese was average, not at his best but I saw his potential... I think Komphela won't take us anywhere near glory land, and the thought of that gives me heartaches because we know only the winning culture and, on the other hand, Steve and winning are just opposites... It must be stated, however, that even though the penalty decision for Chiefs' goal was questionable, they were on the receiving end of poor refereeing just last week against Platinum Stars, so it seems to have balanced things out.
There no doubt all at Naturena will be happy to wake up today, with three points in the bag, but the supporters will be expecting more convincing performances and more goals going forward.
What are your thoughts on Wednesday night's game?
