The story

Masandawana star Bongani Zungu is in love with his new gaming gadget, the Sony PlayStation Portal, a small-screen remote play solution for the PS5.

Zungu posted a couple of clips on his Instagram story, where he can be seen multitasking by playing with his son, Micah and using his PlayStation Portal.

"My guy is fighting for my PlayStation Portal," jokes Zungu, who gave his followers a closer look at his PS Portal remote, that's valued at around R5 499 at Game 4 U.

The PlayStation Portal allows gamers to put their PS5 game collection at the palm for their hands, playing compatible games they have installed on their PS5 consoles without needing to play on a TV.

Although many would assume the PlayStation Portal is Sony's modern answer to their mid-2000s portable gaming console, the PSP, unfortunately, it's not.

The PlayStation Portal only plays games via Remote Play, as mentioned by IGN, making it impossible to play it on the go as there's no version with a cellular connection or without also owning a PlayStation 5.

There is literally nothing else it can do beyond playing your PS5 games. An IGN review mentioned that all media functions are disabled on Sony Remote Play.

"The PlayStation Portal will only play games and let you navigate the PS5's menus, so without a PS5 at the ready, the Portal is a paperweight," writes IGN's Seth Macy.

Along with giving gamers an all-in-one gaming experience, the visual experience of the PlayStation Portal cannot be overlooked, as it comes with a high-quality 8-inch LCD screen and  DualSense, which offers immersive haptic feedback, dynamic adaptive triggers and a built-in microphone.
