Over the last month of the DStv Premiership, March, a number of players raised their hands to be counted among the best, with the League having already announced Sekhukhune United’s Linda Mntambo and his coach, Lehlohonolo Seema, as Player and Coach of the Month for March/April, respectively.

Babina Noko made history by winning both awards for the first time and this comes as no surprise as they’ve been one of the best-performing teams. Mntambo missed most of the season due to a career-threatening injury but managed to bounce back in spectacular fashion. He has been creating and scoring goals for his club marking his return to the field in style.

Orlando Pirates have also been enjoying a good run, notwithstanding their inconsistency, collecting points and reaching the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup under coach Jose Riveiro. A number of their players have been impressive, putting up great performances and scoring a lot of goals. The Buccaneers find themselves third on the log, behind Mamelodi Sundowns and Stellenbosch FC, and they will be the first to admit that, had they showed more consistency, they could have been in a much better position.

Mamelodi Sundowns have had to switch their focus between the domestic league, CAF Champions League as well as the Nedbank Cup in the past month. To say the hectic schedule is starting to show on coach Rulani Mokwena’s team would be an understatement. The Chloorkop-based side has uncharacteristically, scored a mere eight goals in their last eight fixtures. A far cry from the free-scoring Sundowns team, which could be a sign of fatigue catching up with them.

Stellies have been going about their business quietly, collecting points and reaching the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup without much noise. Coach Steve Barker’s charges have played more than 20 games without tasting defeat, having already won the Carling Knockout and will be looking to secure their second spot on the log and reach their second cup final in one season.

Players like Lucas Ribeiro Costa, Linda Mntambo, Devin Titus, Tshegofatso Mabasa, Patrick Maswanganyi, Eva Nga and Teboho Mokoena are just some of the players who have raised their hand for recognition with their performances for their respective clubs.
