Bafana Bafana wrapped up their positive 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign by finishing in third place at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on Saturday evening, beating the Democratic Republic of Congo 6-5 on penalties.
The victory over DR Congo ensured that South Africa walk away with a the bronze medal for the first time since 2000.
The deadlock at full-time took the match straight to a penalty shoot-out that Bafana Bafana took top sudden death, with captain Ronwen Williams being the hero once again as he produced two saves.

"3rd-place finish, well done boys, but personally I'm not convinced. The performances were very poor, that's why some bloggers call it luck, l don't blame them. The only game we played very good was against Morocco, the rest? l actually think luck was on our side, especially Cape Verde. Even Congo were better than us but we'll take the bronze, our ancestors shined on us," says @Terry2007.

"I'm inclined to believe that South Africa has an exhilarating and enjoyable style of football. But, I had never get that playing style from this Bafana group. Even when Chiefs went to the final of CAF Champions League playing this boring style of football, it was not nice to watch.
"Maybe the unavailability of some of these overseas-based players creates this plan B, defensive style that nobody knows yet. But, with good players selection, I tend to believe we can still play this beautiful South Africa playing style," says winterv.me.

It was an AFCON campaign to remember for Bafana Bafana. After losing their Group E opener to Mali, 2-0, Bafana went on to keep four clean sheets in-a-row to beat Namibia, knock out Tunisia, outlast Morocco and Cape Verde before being knocked out in the semi-final by the Super Eagles.
After Ivory Coast beat Nigera 2-1 in Sunday's final, the Bafana players claimed their bronze medals during the trophy ceremony, as well as a Fair Play Award.
