Orlando Pirates head coach, Jose Riveiro, has hinted on what could be expected regarding Relebohile Mofokeng and the team in the coming weeks.

The rising star has been a notable absentee from Riveiro’s line-ups for Pirates since mid-October after he jetted off to England to attend trials at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

With the indications that the 19-year-old is now back in Mzansi though there has been no official word from the Soweto giants on his overseas trial, Riveiro says he is hoping they ‘can have more players available for the next time’ following the team’s disappointing 2-1 loss against Cape Town Spurs on Wednesday.

The Spanish tactician did however emphasize that the Buccaneers have enough depth in their squad with equally capable players who are ready to do duty for the team.

“We want everybody ready to play and we would like to have everybody ready to play and have all the possibilities. But at the same time, we miss nobody, we are a collective (and) we have quality enough. Today we played (Monnapule) Saleng, (Tembinkosi) Lorch, Karim Kimvuidi, Kermit Erasmus, Vincent Pule, so it’s not about who is there on the field. We have more than enough… it’s about a lot of things that are not related to one or two individuals. Fortunately, that’s not our case,” said Riveiro, speaking to journalists at the DHL Cape Town Stadium.

“Like I said (previously), Rele (Mofokeng) like everybody else is an important player for us (and) hopefully we can have more players available for the next time,” the coach said.

The product of the School of Excellence is understood to have done well during his trial at Wolves, with positive feedback expected from the relevant parties.

While an update is expected from Bucs regarding the player’s future, indications are that he could be considered for a return to Riveiro’s matchday squads for now to add to his 11 appearances across all competitions so far in the 2023/24 season.

Bucs' next fixture is in the Carling Knockout away to Richards Bay in the quarter-finals on Saturday. Even though Pirates are suffering from inconsistency in the PSL, they have won all cup competitions on offer from last season, so they will start the game as favourites in KwaZulu-Natal.
