Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has been the man selected to lead a star-studded Carling All Star line-up consisting of a number of established Premiership stars, as well as their DStv Diski Challenge counterparts.
They will take on Carling Knockout winners Stellenbosch FC at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on 6 January.
According to a statement released by Carling, Kermit Erasmus is the player who received the most votes with 39691 votes, while the Kaizer Chiefs duo of Ashley Du Preez and Itumeleng Khune finished in second and third place respectively.
Representing the DDC is fan favourite Mfundo Vilakazi, as well as, Siphamandla Zikhali, Masibonge Ngidi and Jabulani.
Khune had come back into the team to replace teenager Zoey Monyapoe of Orlando Pirates. However, Chiefs have since released a statement noting that their former captain will not be able to play in the match because of his suspension from all football activities.
Here is the full statement from Chiefs' official website:
"Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune, will not be available to participate in next month’s match between the Carling All-Stars and the winners of the 2023 Carling Knockout Cup, Stellenbosch FC.
"Despite being voted into the All-Stars line-up via a public poll, Khune is currently serving a suspension from all football-related activities at Kaizer Chiefs, and is therefore ineligible for selection.
"The player, as well as the PSL, have been informed of his unavailability and an announcement from the League and sponsors, Carling, regarding the make-up of the All-Star team will be made in due course."
