Orlando Pirates’ Jose Riveiro was the coach voted for by fans to lead the Carling All Star side – and we take a closer look at how he edged his closest competitor, Rulani Mokwena for the position.

The innovation that is the Carling Knockout Cup saw fans get the opportunity to not only assemble all of their favourite players into one team, but also to vote for the coach to take charge of their selected teams.
In terms of voting, Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune was the player fans wanted the most, while Pirates coach Riveiro was the man selected to sit in the dugout.
Ultimately it was a three-horse race between Riveiro (5581 votes), Rulani Mokwena (4652 votes) and Steve Barker (4203 votes). Because Barker took charge of his Stellenbosch side, the coach with the third highest votes was TS Galaxy’s Sead Ramovic (2313 votes)
The decision from fans proved to be the right one as Riveiro led the All-Stars team to a 2-1 victory over Stellies to walk away with the R2 million prize money.
