Coach Rulani Mokwena echoed Pep Guardiola's recent comments after Mamelodi Sundowns' late win over Richards Bay FC.

The Brazilians left it late to secure victory over the Natal Rich Boys after Junior Mendieta's header in second-half stoppage time secured a 1-0 win at Loftus Versfeld.

Mokwena praised his players for persevering and breaking through a stubborn Richards Bay defence.

“Look, let me congratulate the club for the win, it’s an important win, important also for the team, group and many rotations we made today,” Mokwena told SuperSport after game.

“At the beginning of the season, I said to the players I’m not happy when we rotate, we lose personality and also dropped points so I got to congratulate them because they worked very, very hard today against a very resolute team.

“They didn’t have enough time to prepare, of course it’s not an excuse. I’m proud of the effort, proud of the energy, proud of the never-say-die attitude.

“It’s very, very important when you play against a low-block you got to keep going and keep going and don’t lose the impetus.

“Don’t lose the feeling that the goal can come you know because it’s difficult. I watched Man City- Arsenal a few days ago and then even Pep (Guardiola) said to beat a low-block you got to kill somebody.

“But they did very well, they believed, pushed and I’m very proud of them. Proud of the substitutions. Lesiba came on did well, Neo came on did well, I thought Mendieta came on and did very, very well.

“Was a good performance all round from everybody and congratulations to the club and everybody involved,” Mokwena added.
