Mamelodi Sundowns’ head coach, Pitso Mosimane revealed his opinion following an observation he made while watching the Spanish La Liga.
Some of Europe’s top leagues – La Liga and Bundesliga have all returned to action after a more than two-month break on football due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Evidently, players are not yet as fit as they would like due to not being able to do field training during the lockdown period.
According to Mosimane’s observations – after watching some of the past weekend’s La Liga fixtures, teams in the Premier Soccer League should be given a minimum of three weeks of training before returning action.
“I watched all La Liga games today and majority of players were struggling after the 60th minute, including Barcelona and Real Madrid. 3 weeks (should be the) minimum to train before we start playing and 5 (substitutes) to be allowed in a game. My technical opinion. Let’s learn from practical experiences,” Mosimane said on his official Twitter account.
“After more than two months of rest, it is very rare to have a football team (that) can play 90 min of football. Hence, in week 3 of pre-season training from off-season, we don’t allow our teams to play more (than) 60 minutes in a game. I believe our decision makers will guide us well,” he added.
Teams have been given the green light to return to training this week but only under strict conditions and after following all protocols.
With that being said, the league is yet to confirm official dates for the resumption of the 2019/20 season.
