Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Thomas Sweswe believes Amakhosi's season is effectively over despite eight DStv Premiership matches remaining.
Speaking exclusively to Soccer Laduma from his UK base, the Zimbabwean-born Sweswe declared there's little left for Chiefs to achieve in the current campaign.
"This season is over for Chiefs. There is nothing to achieve for the team this season. Yes, they will finish in the top eight that's possible but you can't say that's an achievement for a team of Chiefs' calibre. They couldn't win any trophy once again and the chances of qualifying for any of the African tournaments is zero. The way things are standing and the moment they can't qualify for neither the CAF Champions League nor the CAF Confederation Cup. That's why I am saying the season is over for Chiefs," Sweswe believes.

Sweswe suggests Chiefs should already shift their focus to next season when they would hope to turn their fortunes around and compete for trophies again.
"So, for now the focus should be on next season. They should already have the coach who will be in charge looking at how he would change things next season and also look at the players who will be released and those who would possibly come in. Planning is very important at this time so that when they go to preseason they can look at what didn't work and what will work for positive results for next season. Now they have just to play to make sure they consolidate the top eight position and work on how things will pen out for next season," Sweswe concluded.
Chiefs' next challenge is against Chippa United on Saturday afternoon. Subsequent fixtures include clashes with Richards Bay, SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns, Polokwane City, and Cape Town Spurs.
Currently, Amakhosi sit in eighth place after 22 games, with 30 points, a massive 19 points separating them from log leaders and defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns who have even played three matches less than Chiefs.
