As part of their expected reshuffling for next season, Kaizer Chiefs may have to also allow assistant coach Dillon Sheppard to move on, and this is the view of former midfielder Humphrey Mlwane, who spoke exclusively to the Siya crew about the reported planned changes in Naturena.

Amakhosi are understood to have plans to remove Cavin Johnson from his role as an interim coach at the end of the season to replace him with a new man to take the team forward.

According to Mlwane, Sheppard may have to also vacate his position to allow for a new-look technical team to be assembled as attempts to compete for trophies will continue again in the 2024/25 campaign.

Sheppard has been with the Soweto giants since 2020, having joined as Gavin Hunt’s assistant.

The 45-year-old has served under the different coaches that have been at the club since Hunt’s departure, although he will now see his contract come to an end on June 30.

“The club cannot be seen as doing favours for some people because at the end of the day it is all about the team and the results. I’m sorry to say this, because I may be seen as someone pushing for one of our own to lose his job, but the team isn’t making any progress, and everyone can see that. The team isn’t going anywhere,” said Mlwane.

“Yes, he (Sheppard) is a South African and one of us, but it doesn’t seem like he has done anything to help improve the team’s situation. He can go and try elsewhere. I’ve heard that his contract is nearing an end, and I don’t see why it would be difficult for him and the club to part ways. It’s not like they will be owing each other and things like that. Chiefs need to bring a new technical team altogether and start all over again,” concluded Mlwane.
