Kaizer Chiefs have not only failed to win a trophy for the ninth season in a row, but this time they are in danger of falling out of the top eight which would rule them out of the MTN8 competition later this year.
While many critics are calling for a new coach, and the club itself is expected to appoint a new permanent mentor for next season, former Chiefs striker Edward Jabu Manqele believes it's not fair to always fault coaches and that players also need to shoulder the blame.

Speaking in a one-on-one exclusive interview with Soccer Laduma, the Randfontein based former South Africa striker observed that coaches should not be changed just for the sake of change. Manqele wants critics to take a look at how the players are performing and their general attitude.
"I really don't know what to say any more with what is happening at Chiefs these days. The results don't resemble those of a team or club like Kaizer Chiefs. So that's why I say about what's happening there, we can't always be faltering coaches all the time," Manqele told the Siya crew.
"Also players need to take responsibility for their actions. I mean they are getting paid so they should deliver. Period. You should not just be happy to get your pay at the end of the month but then you don't deliver. That's not fair to the coach and to the club as a whole. It's time Chiefs' players pulled up their socks and show that they represent a big club like Kaizer Chiefs. Let's stop blaming only the coaches," Manqele observed.
The former striker, who also played for Mamelodi Sundowns in his career, added that the players should each be seriously questioned about their roles in failing to produce for their respective coaches.
"Hence I mentioned that players must also take the blame unless it's sabotage because they can do that to a coach if they don't want to play for you. You know, there is something called player power or dressing room revolt. Let's hope it's not like that at Chiefs and that it's just poor results which will pass.
"But you know players can sabotage a coach and that happens in football," Manqele concluded.
Kaizer Chiefs' next game is against Richards Bay in the DStv Premiership on Sunday, April 21. It's a long wait for Amakhosi because they are out of the Nedbank Cup which takes place this coming weekend.
