'Happy' Vilakazi A Glimmer Of Hope For Chiefs

With Kaizer Chiefs having suffered yet another loss, their fourth loss in the calendar year this weekend, interim coach Cavin Johnson reveals the glimmer of hope within his side at this point.

Richards Bay joined the likes of Chippa United, Stellenbosch, Orlando Pirates and Milford FC in taking three points from the Glamour Boys in 2024, following their 1-0 win over the Naturena-based outfit this weekend.

As seen during the game, fresh after being rewarded with a long-term professional contract, Mfundo Vilakazi emerged from the bench where he was hoping to provide a spark for his side.

Johnson, clearly pleased from what he saw from the teenager in the 30 minutes on the field gave a verdict on Vilakazi's performance, pleading for patience from the team's ardent fans.

"I think he did a lot. I think he made the fans happy. But at the same time, I did see him go forward, which he was supposed to do, and he's capable of doing that," he told journalists in attendance.

"We need to give him a little bit more time to settle in on the field with Kaizer Chiefs, I mean outside is fine, but he needs to settle in on the field for Kaizer Chiefs. And I thought in a lot of moments you saw him, he was happy. I thought he might be sad now because we lose and it's his first game.

"But I'm sure he’ll come to the party a lot better as the season goes on and as he spends more and more time with the Kaizer Chiefs first team," he said.
