Kaizer Chiefs striker Ashley Du Preez shared his excitement at becoming just the fifth player in the PSL era to score a brace in the Soweto Derby.

It was a blistering first half from the speedy 26-year-old to score not one, but two goals in one of the country's biggest fixtures last weekend.

His first came as early as the sixth minute when he dispatched a Pule Mmodi through ball past a hapless Sipho Chaine with his left foot at the near post, while his second came 38 minutes later as he was once again teed up by Mmodi this time slotting it into the roof of the net to give Chiefs the lead for the second time in the match.

Ultimately, it would be the Buccaneers who reigned supreme as they rallied from behind to win the match 3-2 and walk away with all three points.

With his brace, Du Preez joined elite company with the likes of Keagan Dolly, Knowledge Musona, Thabang Lebese and Siyabonga Nomvethe as the only players to have pulled off the feat in the PSL era.

“I have not scored a goal since my return from injury, so It’s an amazing feeling to be a part of history of this big match and score a brace,” Du Preez says.

“Every player in South Africa would love to play in the Soweto Derby, and scoring makes it even more special. I’m glad I was able to contribute even though the final result was not what we were looking for," he said via the Kaizer Chiefs official website.
