'New year, new me' is a slogan many of us throw around while setting out grand plans, resolutions, and goals for the year ahead. They can often feel overwhelming and unsustainable as the year progresses and life gets busy. To help you ensure that 2024 is different and you’re able to keep up with your goals without getting fatigued, dismayed, or demotivated – it’s important to ensure you prioritise your wellness over quick and fast outcomes. To help you stay on track with your goals in 2024 and get active in a collaborative way with your peers, Powerade® is using their global communications platform ‘Pause is Power’, which was launched globally in 2022 to serve as a reminder to prioritise wellness over winning. Some ways you can stay motivated and on track with your fitness and health goals for 2024 is to consider the following pointers

  • Consult a nutritionist to prioritise balanced nutritious meals – don’t cut out whole food groups as this leads to unhealthy eating habits that are restrictive and can lead to purging – often slowing your progress and causing cravings.
  • Meal-prep and hack dishes you enjoy – try and find alternative nutrient-dense versions of your favourite dishes – that way you’re eating the food you like with better gut health benefits.
  • The best form of exercise is simply moving – whether you start with just walking daily or choosing a workout you enjoy, like dancing, or boxing, make sure it’s something you look forward to adding to your weekly routines and will offer a sense of stress relief during busier weeks.
  • Slow improvement is more sustainable than fast results – while it can be easy to feel dismayed by slow results, these tend to lead to more maintainable and sustainable long-term results and allow your body to adjust and progressively build strength.
  • Remember to Pause – when starting a new resolution, it’s natural to feel like we need to push hard for results, but the key to sustainable long-term results is to take it day by day and give yourself days of rest. This includes giving yourself days to enjoy events without guilt or worry knowing that it’s merely a pause and not a halt.

Powerade® is actively tackling the taxing ‘win at all costs’ mentality by emphasising the importance and regenerative benefits of taking a pause – be it for laughter, introspection, community interaction, or recovery.

With their initiative of pausing for power in mind, Powerade® took a moment to pause and invest in the revitalisation of the popular Orlando West Park by making over the basketball court and turning it into a modernised multipurpose court.

Ramokone Ledwaba, the Marketing Director at Coca-Cola Africa, expressed her excitement about the court transformation, “This makeover reflects our core values and perfectly mirrors our ‘Coming Back Strong Starts with a Pause’ message. At Powerade®, we believe the revitalisation of the court sculpts a metaphor for the innate strength within us all.”

Ledwaba and her team invite the community to get involved and embrace this new enhanced court to foster tranquillity, meditation, and rejuvenation leading into 2024.

“I am thrilled to witness brands like Powerade® embodying the spirit of giving back, recognising the importance of community development through sports, exemplifying the core principles of service delivery and the ‘Batho Pele’ principle. We encourage more brands to follow suit and partner with the City,” enthused MMC of Community Development in the City of Johannesburg, Cllr. Magwentshu.

Nestled in Soweto, this multipurpose court aims to tie in historical significance and blend the dynamic cultures of the community by fostering team activities and fitness communal support and collaboration. Allowing locals to network and meet with like-minded community members looking to embark on a wellness journey in the new year and support each other in this endeavour.

Beyond just sporting and recreational equipment, families can come and enjoy the swings, netball and basketball court, professional-sized football pitch, and 1km running track all housed on the premises. This will allow you and your whole family to enjoy staying active while having fun together in a way and sport you most enjoy.
