Janine van Wyk made some special history for Banyana Banyana, who qualified for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations by overcoming Burkina Faso on Monday.
Van Wyk made her 185th appearance and became the most capped African player (men and women) in history, surpassing legendary Egypt goalkeeper Ahmed Hassan.
The veteran defender will now officially hang up her boots, having already played her final domestic clash last month for JVW.

However, the 36-year-old's time on the pitch came to an end after just seven minutes as she made way for Lebohang Ramalepe to bring an end to her footballing career.
The tie was poised at 1-1 on aggregate, but the African champions got the break through in the second half when Linda Motlhalo converted a penalty ten minutes into the second half.
Desiree Ellis' charges end any hopes of Burkina Faso comeback in the final four minutes when Nicole Michael fired home to seal a 2-0 win on the day and 3-1 on aggregate, as South Africa can defend their WAFCON crown in Morocco.
