Retired footballer Edelbert Dinha believes the current Bafana Bafana national team doesn’t have continuity and tends to chop and change too much.
At the moment, the team is at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast where they are set to take on Namibia in their second group game on Sunday.

This is after losing 2-0 to Mali in their tournament opener on Tuesday night. With it being a new set-up from the team that last appeared at the tournament in 2019 in Egypt, Dinha believes that not having had a settled group of players won’t bode well for them.
“For Bafana, there have been so many changes and I can tell that’s a negative. It doesn’t augur well for this side that’s got newcomers all of them and that’s the problem at times with some of these national teams,” Dinha told Marawa Sports Worldwide.
In addition, not having the same kind of settled structure in their senior set-up that the current champions of the continent Senegal boast comes as another stumbling block, according to Dinha. Senegal have been able to keep the spine of the team and introduce new guns gradually as seen with Lassine Camara in the 3-0 win over Gambia.
“It tends to be new faces every time. But look at your Senegal, the nucleus of the team doesn’t change, they would bring one or two – your Camaras would come in but I can tell you,” Dinha continued.
“With your eyes closed, you can tell who is the back-four, who is the goalkeeper for Senegal who is the strike-force but you don’t see that with Bafana so that might actually work against Bafana.
“But again, you might say it’s always good to introduce new players but you can’t introduce too many of them,” the Zimbabwean football legend continued.
Following Tuesday’s loss in Korhogo, the South Africans are at the bottom of Group E with zero points.
