According to the Daily Star, the British billionaire has decided that he will pursue the appointment of Gareth Southgate at the end of the season. After canvassing some of the legends of Old Trafford, an overwhelming majority of them see the current England manager as the ideal man to succeed Ten Hag.
Incoming sporting director Dan Ashworth is also believed to be a massive fan of the Watford native, having worked together at the Football Association (FA).
Ashworth worked at the FA as director of elite development and his spell there overlapped with Southgate’s appointment as England U21 and senior team head coach, and this is where they are said to have formed a close relationship.
Ratcliffe reportedly does not believe that United’s current 54-year-old boss is the right man to lead the club going forward. Even if the Dutchman does win the FA Cup and qualifies for the UEFA Champions League next season, doubts remain over his capabilities.
Southgate’s current deal with the Three Lions expires in December this year and the same report claims that the long-serving England manager has not yet decided on whether he will extend at St. Georges Park, giving United belief that luring him back to club football could well be a possibility.

With the time remaining on his current deal at Carrington, it is believed that getting rid of Ten Hag would cost the club around £10 million (R241 million).
