Former Manchester United player Jesse Lingard has been slammed by his manager in South Korea following his first few performances for his new club.

The 32-time England international has made a complicated start to life in South Korea, where he represents FC Seoul in the country's K League 1.

Lingard, formerly of the Red Devils and Nottingham Forest in England, joined the side as a free agent in February, and said at the time of his arrival that he had turned down many proposals in order to accept Seoul's.

Since then, though, the attacking midfielder has played only 105 minutes of football over the course of three appearances, with his manager, Kim Gi-dong, admitting he has not been impressed with the player's work ethic.

"I've been thinking a lot about removing Jesse Lingard," the tactician said, according to the Daily Star.

"I don't think a player who doesn't run for a few minutes is a football player. If he doesn't fight, and doesn't run better than the player who runs for 90 minutes?

"If you're going to play soccer in the name, shouldn't you just take the retired players?"

Lingard made his debut for Seoul in a 2-0 league defeat to Gwangju FC in February, before making his first start for the club in a goalless draw with Incheon United eight days later.

The Englishman was then back on the bench in the following game week, coming on for the final 32 minutes in Seoul's 2-0 victory over Jeju United.
