Joao Mendes, who is the son of Ronaldinho, joined the Catalan giants last year after breaking through at Cruzeiro, but he has remained with the youth team this campaign.

The 19-year-old made his debut for the Juvenil B side last year but has since been promoted to the A team after impressing.

The progress is continuing after Marca reported that the young forward was called up by Xavi to train with the first team this week.

Xavi has been known to give young players a chance in the team during his time with the club and with injuries continuing the plague the team, Mendes might get his opportunity.

With a number of the first team regulars away on international duty, Xavi decided to call up a few of the younger players to help with the numbers in training.

The report adds that Mendes is not expected to remain in Xavi's first team plans though, unless there is a major change or injury crisis in the attack.
