In a dramatic ending to the transfer window, the Catalan club announced they had landed Portugal internationals Felix and Joao Cancelo on loan from Atletico and Manchester City, respectively, for the 2023/24 campaign.
Felix was believed to have pushed hard behind the scenes in order to fulfil his lifelong dream of playing for the Blaugrana, although it remains to be seen if the deal will be made permanent at the end of the season.
According to Cadena COPE journalist Pedro Morata, the ex-Benfica starlet has accepted a significant pay cut with his temporary switch to Barcelona, whose financial struggles in recent years have been well documented.
It is claimed Felix will be paid just €400 000 (R8.2 million) for the entire campaign, with Atletico reportedly having covered his wages for July and August.
The 23-year-old did, however, extend his stay at the Madrid-based side until 2029 prior to leaving for Barcelona, and is believed to have accepted a 50% pay reduction until his contract expires.
Felix returned to Los Rojiblancos in July following a six-month loan spell at Chelsea in the Premier League last season, but his rocky relationship with manager Diego Simeone means it is unlikely he will be in the Argentine tactician's plans for the team any time soon.
