Gunners manager Mikel Arteta made one change from the loss to Bayern Munich on Wednesday, as Jakub Kiwior replaced Oleksandr Zinchenko at left-back.

The visitors dominated possession in the early stages of the first half but they were unable to carve out any serious openings and were restricted to efforts from distance.

The home side went even closer after 29 minutes when João Gomes broke free down the right and went one-on-one with goalkeeper David Raya, who pushed the strike onto the upright.

However, the Gunners got the breakthrough in the 44th minute when Belgium international Leandro Trossard rifled the ball into the top corner after being teed up by Gabriel Jesus in the box.

It was more of the same in the second half as the visiting side enjoyed more of the possession as they went in search of a second goal.

Wolves responded with a double change in the final 20 minutes as Rayan Ait-Nouri and Pablo Sarabia were introduced in place of Matt Doherty and Tawanda Chirewa as they pushed for the equaliser.

However, Martin Odegaard sealed the win for the Gunners in time added on with a lovely finish from a tight angle after a swift counter-attack.

The win moves Arsenal to the top of the table, although City will be back in action in midweek against Brighton and Hove Albion.
