Manchester United kept their slim top four hopes alive with a 2-0 victory over Everton on Saturday afternoon.

Premier League

Result: Manchester United 2-0 Everton

Date: 09 March 2024

Venue: Old Trafford

Both the Red Devils and Everton were unchanged for the encounter, with Bruno Fernandes playing through the middle as he did in the loss to Manchester City.

United made a fast start after being awarded a penalty on 10 minutes when James Tarkowski fouled Alejandro Garnacho. Bruno Fernandes stepepd up and calmly slotted into the bottom corner.

Everton did not seem to down after falling behind as James Garner and Jack Harrison had a couple efforts at goal, with goalkeeper Andre Onana coming out on top.

However, the Red Devils were awarded a second penalty ten minutes before the halftime break after Ben Godfrey has fouled Garnacho with a clumsy challenge. Marcus Rashford stepped up this time and made no mistake from 12 yards out.

Everton coach Sean Dyche opted for a double change ten minutes into the second half, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Andre Gomes came in for Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure as they looked for a way back into the contest.

The away side did look a bit more lively and carved out a big chance after 74 minutes when Lewis Dobbin sent low cross in the six-yard area just missed the boot of Calvert-Lewin and sailed out.

That proved to be the final chance of the first half as Ten Hag's secured the clean sheet and three points, moving nine points behind fourth-placed Aston villa.
