Earlier this week, Walid Regragui named his first national team squad since their elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations at the hands of South Africa.

There was much anticipation surrounding his announcement as many expected for Los Merengues attacker Brahim Diaz to be summoned to the Atlas Lions.

Indeed the 24-year-old was included in the squad for the very first time for the north African giants’ upcoming encounters against Angola and Mauritania. While his arrival to the 1976 African champions was expected, what was perhaps surprising was the inclusion was that of Real youth star, Youssef Lekhedim.

According to Relevo, the 18-year-old has played an integral part of Alvaro Arbeloa’s Real Juvenile A side and is regarded as one of the brightest talents to emerge from the club's famed academy, La Fabrica, in recent years.

Recently there has been talk about him graduating from the Real's youth teams into Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, but having played zero minutes at the senior level, Regragui has beaten his Italian counterpart to giving the young left back his first opportunity at the senior level.
