On Tuesday evening, Ahly secured their third successive win in the Egyptian Premier League with a 4-1 victory over Ittihad Alexandria.

The Red Devils managed to achieve this without their two star talents Tau and Maaloul, with neither being included in the matchday squad for the game.

Both are believed to be considered strong pillars of the Swiss tactician's side, and he wants them fresh and fit for the first leg of their Champions League final against the Blood and Gold in Rades, Tunisia, later this month.

However, according to El Watan, in a bid to maintain the duo's sharpness for the colossal clash, the 63-year-old plans on reintroducing them to his starting XI for their next league encounter against Baladiyat El Mahalla.

The former Austria national team manager is believed to have wanted the Tunisian and the South African to have some rest, but also wants to prepare them in the best way possible for what will essentially be a rematch of the 2017/18 Champions League final.

The two north African giants have met frequently in Africa's premier club competition in recent years, with Ahly having won their two semi-final encounters during the 2020/21 and 2022/23 campaigns.

However, the last time the two sides met in the final, it was Esperance who emerged victorious as they overturned a 3-1 deficit to win the second leg 3-0, thus winning the title and being crowned continental kings in 2018.
