After a seven-year wait, the Blood and Yellow and Masandawana will renew their continental rivalry when they meet at the Stade Olympique Hammadi Agrebi on Saturday evening.
Last season, this was the stage of the Champions League when both teams crashed out, with Sundowns losing to Wydad Athletic Club and Esperance being defeated by Al Ahly.
One of these two sides will thus outdo their respective performance from the previous campaign, and the head coach of Tunisia's most successful side, Miguel Cardoso, believes his team has the ability to achieve something special against their South African counterparts.
"We will correct our mistakes [from their 1-1 league draw with Monastir on Sunday] as part of our preparation for this match," the Portuguese tactician told the club's media.
"The technical staff is already hard at work and we will be ready on D-Day. I am confident that we have the resources to achieve great things. We need to stay focused, stay together, and give our best in every game. If we do that, we will be difficult to stop."

Esperance and Sundowns have met six times before in African club football's premier competition, with the Tunisians having a slight advantage regarding their head-to-heads, having won two of those encounters. Three ended in draws, while Masandawana's lone victory over the north African giants in the tournament was a 2-0 win in 2000.
