With Mohamed Salah having rescued a point for his side in late stoppage time against Mozambique, the Egyptian national team has been slammed following their 2-2 draw in the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Pharoahs narrowly escaped a shock defeat to minnows Mozambique on Sunday. Mostafa Mohamed gave Egypt the lead in second minute of the match.  After the half-time break, Mozambique staged a stunning come back and they netted two goals in the space of three minutes.

With defeat seemingly in sight for the record AFCON champions, they were awarded a penalty is stoppage time and talisman Salah calmy stepped and converted from the spot to salvage a point.

The vice of the Egyptian Football Association Khaled El-Darandaly has since suggested that it was a negligent display by the team, according to KingFut.

El-Darandaly said after the game: “We will not evade responsibility.

“There was negligence on the part of the players, and they did not deliver the expected performance, which they had shown in previous matches.

“The biggest mistake is not acknowledging the fundamental error, and therefore it is necessary to admit the shortcomings of the players in the Mozambique game.

“There is a deep sadness among the players after the draw, and they feel the negligence. They have a strong desire to redeem themselves in the upcoming matches.

“[Rui] Vitoria is in a state of great sadness, and there will be a meeting with the players, which was not scheduled before, to talk to them after the draw with Mozambique.”

The man of the match, Guima of Mozambique, said he was over the moon about the result.

“It’s an indescribable feeling. It’s my first AFCON and I’m so proud to be here,” Guima said in his post-match press conference.

“I am proud of my team. We stood up to Egypt. We want to showcase Mozambican talent to the world.

“We really believe we will go far, we think big, we know we can beat any team."
