What's the story?

Former Bafana Bafana midfielders, Teko Modise and Reneilwe Letsholonyane, openly discussed the current culture of the Soweto derby.

With the Soweto giants clashing on Saturday, Dona & Yeye looked ahead to the fixture they've battled in on many occasions, questioning whether the modern players approach the derby they same way they did.

Dona & Yeye discuss Soweto derby climate

Kaizer Chiefs are set to take on Orlando Pirates in a middle of the table clash at the FNB Stadium on Sunday, with both teams looking for an improved showing from November's match.

With the derby being criticised by many for losing some of its lustre with continues draws and at-times, it's lack of entertainment when it comes to goals and drama, two legends feel as if modern players approach the fixture differently from how they did in the mid-2000s to early 2010s.

"As a footballer with pride, I hated to lose. I'm not saying that when I lose, I can't be beaten. I just couldn't lose and go and shake the opponents hand and give them high fives, njani? (how).

"That was the [Soweto] derby day, seeing Life Gqosha putting in a two-footed challenge... it was the pride!" says Modise, the ex-Bucs midfielder.

"Now it's a game, it's like an ordinary game that you watch. Committed? I would not question the commitment of the players. Because, I know for a fact that they want to do well.

"But what I can safely say is that now, the importance of the derby, we understood it," says Chiefs legend, Yeye.
