Fans react to MaMkhize's Carte Blanche episode

MaMkhize, known for her flamboyant style and wealth, came face-to-face with Carte Blanche's Govan Whittles interrogated her over a 2005 fraud case, which brought about a guilty verdict.

In February this year, Carte Blanche investigated how the mayor of the Msunduzi Local Municipality was able to sign a multi-million rand deal to sponsor Royal AM for the next three years, despite the glaring service delivery and financial issues that face Pietermaritzburg.

MaMkhize mentioned that there were certain details she didn't enjoy about the aforementioned Carte Blanche's story on her club's involvement with the Msunduzi Local Municipality, despite not being the direct focus of the story.

The investigative journalism show was served with a Cease and Desist application from MaMkhize within days of the episode airing, with the Royal AM head honcho saying she's not a convicted fraudster.

MaMkhize later withdrew the lawsuit days before the court case, after the show's journalist found evidence of her fraud conviction in 200.

She adamantly denied her fraud conviction in her interview with Whittles, saying that her company and not her specifically was convicted back in 2005.

The show spotlighted the Royal AM owner's run-ins with the law in 2005 as well as 2011 and 2012, for charges including tax evasion and when asked about her political connections helping her secure major tender deals, she said:

"I didn't choose to be born in a political environment. Why can't the world look at me as a young black woman, who has worked very hard, who has pushed boundaries, who has opened doors..."

When asked if she got her criminal record expunged, he responded by saying: "I don't know, I'm not a lawyer, I cannot comment on that."

"All I can tell is that my record is clean and I have never been charged in my personal capacity for fraud," she added.
