The South African national team secured their spot in the 2019 AFCON competition on the weekend, after defeating Libya 2-1 away in Tunisia.

Speaking to the media, Baxter opened up about the challenges the team faced, having just four sessions to prepare with a different formation than the usual playing set-up, while also having to endure a hostile environment during the encounter.

“The players were magnificent, Dean Furman, a normal PSL game, a player will run 10,2km, Dean (Furman) ran 11,9, we had two or three that were over 11 so they gave their sweat and blood. The way the players adapted, the way they responded, it was a very hostile environment and I don’t know if anybody could work out what they were chanting, it was ‘Bafana F*** you’ and it was like 14 thousand people, throwing bottles at the technical area, etc, etc,” Baxter explained.
