Micho: When A Soweto Boy’s Dream Comes True…
Orlando Pirates head coach, Milutin Sredojevic has heaped praise on one of his midfielders.
Pirates ended off the 2017/18 Absa Premiership campaign in second place on the league standings, having had quite a promising season, where they’ve made a number of new signings that have improved the overall performances of the team.
One of the Buccaneers signing’s Xolani Mlambo, who joined the club during the January transfer window, is currently rated highly by his head coach, Sredojevic, with the Serbian comparing him to former Spanish international, Xabi Alonso.
“Xolani Mlambo, I would say that I have played in a similar position, centre midfield (and) I know how hard it is, those are unsung heroes of the game of football. Those are the people that box-to-box midfielders that are working in securing Middlefield to be won, defence to be protected and attack to be supported.
“When you have a player that has all the ingredients and when he has dream as (a) Soweto boy has come true, I am very happy because he fulfils many criteria and first criteria before football is human criteria that he feels the team, the club, inside of himself and when you look at that, this is once more good foundation for the rest, otherwise I want to (say), except he is for me (the) Xabi Alonso of South African football and I wish that he develops, improves.
“There’s a huge room for improvement and space for development and I expect from him that Xolani Mlambo to be seen next season in front of us,” he added.
