A staircase used by supporters at the Maracana Stadium was on the verge of collapsing as fans flooded in for the 2014 FIFA World Cup match between Argentina and Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Reports from Brazil suggested that a separate entrance for VIP's on the other side of the stadium was created safely out of concrete while thousands of supporters had to enter the stadium on the scaffolded staircase - causing concern for their safety.
Following initial complaints, the Brazilian state government released a statement saying that inspections had been done, and that the staircase had been "reinforced and re-inspected" ahead of the match between Spain and Chile on Wednesday.
