SLTV: Mweene: The Team Must Go On…
Kennedy Mweene admitted that he is not happy about the injury to Denis Onyango.
Mweene has been Sundowns’ first choice between the sticks in their past three league encounters, after the Ugandan international, Onyango picked up an injury that could keep him out of action for a few more weeks.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Mweene revealed that he is not happy about Onyango’s injury but admits that the team must carry on, this as he finally gets the opportunity to prove himself between the sticks.
“In the goalkeeping department, we have got four good goalkeepers and I think for us the competition is healthy,” Mweene told the media.
“The goalkeeper coach always tells us that the most difficult thing is a goalkeeper who is not playing when you are training and you are not playing it is very difficult because you have to do the same thing every day and for me I’ve been working hard and look it is not my wish that he got injured, it is bad but at the end of the day the team must go on,” he said.
The 34-year-old then went on to reflect on their upcoming CAF Champions League challenge this weekend, with the Brazilians welcoming Wydad Casablanca to their home ground.
“Last year, we never went past the group stage or the quarterfinals, so it will be very important to go past the group stage and go all the way and that is what we are working on.
“We know what is expected of us, it wasn’t a good result, we got, that’s not the result that we wanted to get in Nigeria, but now we are looking at Saturday,” he added.
