SLTV: ‘My All-Time Favourite Defender Is Lucas Radebe’
Playing your way up the leagues describes the story of Highlands Park United defender, Sello Motsepe.
Although born in Limpopo, his parents decided to move to Johannesburg when he was a two-year-old.
Growing up in a good and solid home, the centre-back recalls the exact age he discovered the game of football, and how he quickly took to the sport, wanting to make it his career.
Although his mother did not believe that anyone could make a living from playing professionally, his father believed the opposite and supported his dream.
ABC Motsepe outfit, Baberwa FC, was where the 26-year-old earned valuable experience as a teenager, including playing in the annual Bayhill Premier Cup before he left to join another ABC Motsepe team, Highlands Park.
Once he arrived in 2014, that same season, the Tembisa-based club earned promotion to the GladAfrica championship and since then, he hasn’t looked back.
During this fascinating interview, he also said…
- "She didn’t believe that someone could actually make a living out of football…"
- "In primary school during lunch, we’d play football…"
- "It was a very proud moment for me…"
- "We have had a very consistent season…"
