SLTV recently caught up with Highlands Park left-back, Ricardo Williams, as he shared how he made it into the PSL.

Growing up the violent and gang-ridden community of Mannenburg, the 23-year-old spoke about his challenging childhood, with his mother raising 10 children on her own.

Being a natural athlete, Williams excelled in athletics but he saw football as the only viable way out to achieve something better and support his family.

Sharing the player that he’s always looked up to and the team he finds hardest to play against, the Cape Town-born player also had to overcome difficult challenges to beat the odds.

During this inspirational interview, Williams said…

  • "It’s a case of you have to duck and dive…"
  • "It was sad, it was frustrating…"
  • "There’s not a lot of people that believe in the dreams that you have…"
  • "They want to keep you back…"
  • "Showing that good can come from this community…"

Stay tuned to SLTV for more inspirational interviews.
