SLTV: Ellis: I Haven’t Slept For Days
Banyana Banyana head coach, Desiree Ellis spoke on how difficult it was for her to choose her World Cup squad.
The South African Women’s national team will be jetting off to France to compete on the big stage in the 2019 FIFA World Cup, coming up against Spain, China and Germany.
While it is a historic moment for women’s football in South Africa, head coach Ellis explained that credit must be given to the collective effort by the entire eam.
“It was an agonizing decision, I haven’t slept for days, I wanted to make sure that I get it right and I also wanted to think about the future,” Ellis told the media.
“It’s never been about me alone, it’s always been about the team as a whole, because we cannot do without each other, yes I make the final selection and the final announcement, my decisions, but I have a technical team, I have a support staff and the players and without them we wouldn’t be here.
“So, for us, it is a collective and for everyone, the whole of South Africa, it’s a historic moment,” she said.
