'We Expect To Play At Home Next Season'- PSL Club Boss

Will PSL teams return to their home stadiums next season? Listen to Stan Matthews' assessment by clicking on the podcast player below!

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) made the decision to host the conclusion of the 2019/20 campaign in a biologically safe environment (BSE) also known as the bio-bubble in Gauteng, in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic. The move was seen as the only viable for local football as South Africa was dealing with the peak of the virus’ spread, and is reported to have cost an estimated R2.5-R3 million per club due mainly to the cost of accommodation. It also meant that teams played in neutral venues. While the bio-bubble has been praised as an unprecedented success, it’s widely concerned too costly to repeat next season, which is due to start on October 9th.

Speaking on The SL Podcast’s The Big Interview, SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews stated that he expects teams to be able to play standard home and away fixtures next season, albeit behind closed doors. He also rates his side’s performances in the bubble and provides updates for Aubrey Modiba, Bradley Grobler & his transfer plans for next season as he searches for Dean Furman’s replacement.
