South African conditioning expert Riedoh Berdien chatted to Soccer Laduma about how he helped Botswana and Togo qualify for AFCON, his current involvement alongside an Arsenal legend and why he thinks Real Madrid rested Cristiano Ronaldo so much.
The 34-year-old recently spoke to our International Editor David Kappel on our highly popular SL radio platform.
Berdien's CV is quite impressive as he is currently working as a consultant for Banyana Banyana as well as alongside Sol Campbell, who was appointed as assistant coach of Trinidad and Tobago earlier this year.
In addition, he helped PSL side Chippa United to get promoted from the Vodacom League to the National First Division and later to South Africa's top flight.
During his stints with Togo and Botswana, he helped both African sides qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations. In addition, he also became the personal conditioning coach of former Real Madrid star Emmanuel Adebayor to help keep him in shape while he was without a club and currently advises him on training regimes.
Amid all his consulting roles, Berdien is now back in South Africa due to family reasons, and is hoping to find a local team he could help with his immense expertise and experience.
We chatted to the conditioning expert about his achievements, what a strength and conditioning coach actually does, why Zinedine Zidane rested Cristiano Ronaldo so much last season, and why Jose Mourinho was right to rotate his Manchester United squad heavily in order to lift the UEFA Europa League.
