At roughly the halfway mark of the season, it is the reigning champions of the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich, who will be heading into the December break at the top of the table with 37 points. Their fiercest rivals Borussia Dortmund are currently in second place with 31 points.
Bayern extended this gap on the past weekend with a 2-1 victory over Mainz, whereas Dortmund drew 1-1 with newly-promoted Bochum. That game was dominated by BVB, and it was Erling Haaland who provided the assist for a Julian Brandt goal in the 85th minute that secured a singular point for Dortmund.
During the match, BVB came under the subject of Schadenfreude (German word meaning "finding joy in others demise") from the Bochum fans after they celebrated getting a point against Dortmund, in the process allowing Bayern to extend their lead at the top of the table.
The Bavarians, meanwhile, continued their fine form against Mainz, grabbing the win courtesy of goals by Kingsley Coman and Jamal Musiala.
