Kaizer Chiefs are in desperate of a turnaround this season, in both the CAF Champions League where they have only collected one point from a possible six and in the DStv Premiership where they sit in 10th position with only four wins in 17 matches. In the league, they’ll be hoping to at least make the top eight to secure a place in next season’s MTN8. The CAF Champions League presents a tougher challenge for Amakhosi coach Gavin Hunt, and former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teko Modise and former Ajax Cape Town goalkeeper Sean Roberts suggest that they should be fighting for pride in the continental competition and that their next two group stage fixtures are the perfect opportunity.
Speaking on the SL Podcast’s 'The Carwash', Roberts - also a former Sundowns goalie, stated, “I think it’s a season [Chiefs] want to soon forget. But they really do need to start finding some form and again, I keep saying this, it’s Kaizer Chiefs. It’s not like we’re talking about a [small team]. This is a team that deserves to be where they are in the Champions League. So they’ve gotta give 100% against Petro De Luanda, it’s Kaizer Chiefs. Do they have the depth? No, we know they don’t, but it’s still no excuse, we expect more, we’ve got to expect more.”
