This past weekend saw Soweto giants Orlando Pirates end their six-year trophy drought with a 2-1 victory over Bloemfontein Celtic in the MTN8 final, earning the Buccaneers their first piece of silverware since they lifted the 2014 Nedbank Cup final. Siphelele Luthuli volleyed home from close range to give Celtic an early advantage, but Pirates fought back with goals from Deon Hotto and a penalty from Thembinkosi Lorch to emerge victorious, giving coach Josef Zinnbauer his first title with the team, just over a year since he was appointed as head coach of the club in December 2019.
In the latest episode of the SL Podcast’s “The Fan Reaction Show”, Bucs fans discuss their long wait for silverware stating “We are very very happy, it’s been long overdue, the players showed us the most fight since the days of Lucky Lekgwathi.”
